FACULTY OF SCIENCE

Welcome to the Applied Bioscience Graduate Program Webpage!

The primary objective of the Applied Bioscience program is to train students to become high-quality researchers at the interface between chemistry and biology.  The program will equip students with a wide array of both practical and conceptual scientific skills that will prepare them for leadership roles in the life sciences. These goals will be achieved through independent research and rigorous interdisciplinary coursework. The program will bring together students and faculty from a variety of scientific backgrounds, which will further enrich the learning experience of the students. In keeping with UOIT’s strategic plan, research will be aimed at creating innovations that will improve the lives of Canadians.

Our unique graduate program platform will lead to the degree of Master of Science (MSc) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Applied Bioscience. Our programs capitalize on the faculty’s current research expertise which is reflected in the four fields in the MSc and PhD programs:

  1. Biomolecular Science;
  2. Ecosystem Health;
  3. Forensic Bioscience; and
  4. Human Health Biology

Our commitment is that our students receive an exceptional educational and scientific experience and leave UOIT as highly skilled scientists.  If you would like to be further considered for a graduate student position at UOIT, please send the following via e-mail to me, Dr. Jean-Paul Desaulnier, Director of the APBS graduate program

  1. A list of university courses including the grades received (you may provide this as a list in the body of the e-mail)
  2. An up-to-date résumé stating relevant experience
  3. Indication of whether you have applied for any fellowships or scholarships (e.g., NSERC, OGS).
  4. Names of three potential supervisors, in order of preference, from the list of researchers in the Applied Bioscience program.

Note that to be formally accepted into the program, you will be required to submit a formal application to UOIT Graduate Studies and fulfill all the requirements. This application and all supporting material should be received by February 1 2012 (1st consideration) or May 1 2012 (2nd consideration) for admission in September 2012.  Information is available at http://gradstudies.uoit.ca/future_students/application_process_and_requirement/index.php. However, we will consider applications after this date.

Once again, we welcome you to our Applied Bioscience webpage at UOIT.  Please browse our webpage or download our brochure to learn more about our graduate program and do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Best regards,
